In Loyalty to Liberty is a liber amicorum in the proper sense, namely a book written by those who wish to honor a common friend with whom they share the love of liberty. The essays included in this volume have been selected from a large group of renowned scholars and experts and arranged into four sections. While the first section focuses on the honoree in his functions as freeman and father and on his ability to attract followers and fellows, the remaining three sections address topics related to political, economic and cultural concepts that have captured his scholarly interest over time.
